Epiphany

Today is Epiphany also called Three Kings Day. It is a Christian holiday that originated in eastern Christian Churches. Like most holidays the rituals and specific reasons for celebration vary from country to country. Generally, though it is a celebration of the manifestation of Christ to the world. Kings' Cake (in French ~ la galette des rois) is eaten as part of Epiphany. It has a flaky top and an dense almond filling called frangipane on the bottom. It is sold with a golden crown. A trinket is baked inside the cake, usually a baby or a king, for one lucky person to find. Whoever finds the trinket gets to wear the crown and be "king for a day."

Naturally the trinket wasn't found in the four pieces we cut. So Bryce and Eva cut up the rest of the cake and "found" it. Eva deemed herself King. However, she decided just to use the tiara she got for Christmas instead of the paper crown. That she gave to Audrey. Ah, her first charitable deed as King. We're so proud.

Hey, I ate a gallette in Paris and got a miniature porcelain doll! I sent it to my sister and it's still in her curio cabinet.
