While I was in Hawaii the in-laws made Christmas Cookies with the girls; 106 cookies to be exact. The girls loved painting the cookies and were engaged for all 106 cookies! I remember loving this as a child too.
Here is the recipe for Egg Yolk Paint*:
1 egg yolk
1/4 teaspoon water
food coloring
Mix yolk and water together and divide among several small cups, depending on how many different colors you wish to use. Add food color to each cup. Paint designs on UNBAKED sugar cookies using small paintbrushes. Bake cookies according to your sugar cookie recipe. My MIL used Mary's Sugar Cookies from the Betty Crocker New Picture Cook Book. *Recipe is from the Betty Crocker New Picture Cook Book.

Egg yolk paint is genius!
Just made some, and learned that when you mix green & red paint you get brown starts :) Merry Christmas. I'm jealous of your snow and Christmas markets.
