More Book Talk

I *loved* all your comments about that great book list! I also love that you left book suggestions. They are great! So great I had to share 'em.

Mrs. Piggle Wiggle - my fourth grade teacher read us Mrs. Piggle Wiggle's Magic. Loved it!

Stuart Little - This book was the most recommended. My mom read it to me and my sister. I loved it! I haven't seen the movie though. Was it any good?

The Mouse and the Motorcycle - gotta love Beverly Cleary

Peter Pan - not Disney. We actually own this exact book. Maybe I should pick it up and read it.

The Littles - I think someone recommended the movie. . . but now I think it was actually The Borrowers.

Judy Moody books - remember seeing these in the school library when I was teaching, but don't know a thing about them.

A-Z Mysteries - I just ordered a mystery for myself, not a genre I usually choose. Thought it looked like a good summer read. Saw it on the best seller list on Amazon.uk - a very sophisticated way of choosing books, I know.

The Percy Jackson books - is a series of fictional adventure and fantasy books authored by Rick Riordan. Set in the United States, the books are predominantly based on Greek mythology. Not something that I would naturally gravitate towards. Maybe I should?

Tales from the Odyssey by Mary Pope Osborne - Again, not something I would pick up, or pick up for my kids, but now it's on my radar - yay.

The Tales of Olga da Polga - from the same author as Paddington Bear. This character is a
guinea pig. Looks really good!

Great Illustrated Classics - Included are some classics that are not usually available in a childrens version - Moby Dick, The Last of the Mohicans, to name a few.

Remember the Choose your Own Adventure books? I used to love those!

I bought these two books from Amazon.uk and have started reading this one to the girls. I thought they (meaning only my oldest) would really be into it since it has to do with magic. So far, she's not buying in.

A little note about picture books:

Since living over here we've become familiar with British author, Julia Donaldson. I love her stories because they all have rhyming, sing-songy text. Her most popular, The Gruffalo is a favorite with Audrey. At one point I had both girls convinced there were Gruffalo farms in Luxembourg. We also really enjoyed The Magic Paintbrush, a bit different than Donaldson's other books.

Want another GREAT book list? Check out this one for girls. Or should I say grrrls?

Thank you all for your thoughtful comments. They are energizing!

p.s. I'm celebrating Se7en's blog anniversary by sharing 7 things. You can share too!

great round up! We are big Julia Donaldson fans here, Tiddler is really cute and The Troll is fantastic (it is a cross between the troll form 3 billy goats gruff and a pirate story - very odd but it works)

We just finished the Wizard of Oz. I have never read it before and it was quite interesting. Lots more twists and turns than the movie!! The girls hadn't watched the movie until after reading the book and were disappointed with all the details that were left out.

Wow, you've put together a stellar list (your link for girls also). We recommended the movie The Borrowers -- hope you love it.
