Guess what I saw

A GREEN WOODPECKER! It was eating insects from our back lawn. Soo cool. From behind in was very hard to identify as it's feathers matched the grass exactly. I watched it from the kitchen window as long as I could, trying to mentally record it's characteristics, before I grabbed my bird book. Until I found the woodpecker description I thought it may have been a bee eater.

Here's the current official list of birds we've seen in our yard*
Robin
Blue Tit
Great Tit
Black bird
Green Woodpecker

*I'm not including the birds I've seen but not identified.

The birds demolished the suet rings Audrey and I hung around the back yard. So, yesterday the girls and I made a bird feeder from a plastic bottle and 2 wooden spoons. I saw the idea on The Crafty Crow.

I'm so jealous! You've got a great variety of birds to watch there. I've never seen a green woodpecker ~ stunning.

I saw a great idea somewhere on the blogosphere were the kids drew pics of the birds they saw and then the mom made them into a calander. I thought it was a GREAT idea. You could totally do that too.
I don't think I've ever seen a green woodpecker before!
