More Macaroning

<span class=

Finally tried some macs from Wengé, a bakery here in Luxembourg. A friend brought an assortment over for dessert on Thursday evening. The flavors were: Lemon, raspberry with chocolate filling, orange, chocolate, MYSTERY, and salted caramel. Yes, you read that right. My friend couldn't remember what flavor the turquoise macs were. All 6 of us sampled them, trying to guess. The guesses were all over the board - bubble gum, lemon, lavender, jasmine. Are there any locals out there who can tell me what we ate? I may just have to get myself down to the center and have a look myself.

All the flavors were tasty. The salted caramel tasted like it literally had butter as the filling, help me god. The raspberry and chocolate is a great combination but I wanted a more intense raspberry flavor. I didn't taste the orange but someone said it tasted like a Dreamsicle. The lemon (citron) was good. Didn't taste chocolate. Fun evening. Fun tasting. Now, to figure out the turquoise mac - it is driving me crazy!

Salted caramel? Oh boy, if they made that with fleur de sel salt, I`d be in big trouble!!! I can`t believe I didn`t treat myself to macarons while in France!! Oh well, I did not miss out on the cheese and I also managed to lug a hefty amount back to Sweden (along with various pâtés and duck) to keep me busy for a while!

Wish I could help you, but I am still a macron virgin. Sigh.

Could it be Earl Gray?
I read a blog with another gal eating a turquoise one and that was the flavor.

The blue macarons are not very common, but the typical flavor tends to be blueberry. Dark purple is casis, and light purple is lavender. light pink can be either stawberry or rose water where as orange can be orange or passion fruit. Light green is pistasio, but if the green is a green is blue it is mint or as they say Menthe. Blue tends to be for special occations like a holiday. In Switzerland they make a blue/white macaron that celebrates a Canton/region of Switzerland. In one restaurant I know the blue is after a tea that they serve. Yes, the filling is buttercream mixed that is sometimes mixed with fruit purees. If you really want to know for sure though I would just call the restaurant. I looked on their menu and it didn't even show the blue ones. Hope this helps a little.

Oh I have never seen these delights, apart from your blog and they look so scrumptious that I am going to have to find out how to make them - they just look so edible!!!

Marcelle - doesn't sound like you're missing out on anything to me :) I'll let you in on a secret, macarons are pretty and fun, but their taste is really not all that spectacular. I'd take a generous schmear of brie on a baguette over one any day. Where did you go in France?

Juice - see secret in comment above. shhhh.

Mom2Isabel - Earl Gray. hmmm. maybe so. good guess. Now, I def have to find out. I'll keep you posted.

this girl - ah, you should have splurged on just one. then you too would know the secret.

likeschocolate - blueberry - hmm. i don't think it was, but that flavor sounds interesting. I have seen photos of those blue Swiss macs you mentioned. turquoise is such a strange color for food.

Se7en- yes, def make some and bring a bit of France to S. Africa :)
