Just wanted to pop in with a pretty and say hello.  I've written many blog posts in my head.  Maybe I'll get one out there soon.  Until then enjoy this stunning pink dog wood tree.

Springtime in Luxembourg

I know I promised you brioche. I also told you I'm unreliable. So a post about spring should come as no surprise.

Spring is here. Not just signs of it, it is really here. I think this is the first year I really paid attention to spring in Luxembourg, at least to what exactly is blooming. Have a look -

~~Forthysia~~

~~Snowdrop Anemone~~ These cover the forest floors right now. Just magical!

~~Violets~~

~~Daffodils~~ Fields of them!

~~Magnolia~~ But I already told you about those.

Truth be told, in the week or so it took me to gather these pictures, the magnolia blossoms have started to drop, the forsythias fade and the daffodils are on their way out. But, yesterday I noticed lilacs with bursting buds and bits of yellow peeking from the rapeseed plants.

Springtime in Luxembourg

The wild flowers are starting to make an appearance. Lots of wild daisies and these white flowers, called Orenathe. They're part of the same family as Queen Anne's Lace (also called Wild Carrot) They're appearing at roadsides, fields and along the rapeseed flower fields. Distracting me while I drive and leading me down memory lane. . .

where I stop at a date nearly 10 years ago - my wedding. I had stems of Queen Anne's Lace through out my wedding flowers. I love that it blooms right around our anniversary. Its a beautiful reminder of a beautiful day.

We're all a buzz here as family is arriving on Thursday! Beds are being made, bathrooms cleaned and menus planned. My in laws are spending a week and a half with us. For the latter part of their visit we've rented a van and are taking a family trip here. Hurrah! Needless to say my posting will be sporadic.

Sunflower Afternoon

Look at what the birds did to our prize sunflower, our biggest giant sunflower!! This is the sunflower that my oldest and I have been waiting for just the right time to cut down and pick out it's seeds. Actually, we recently planned to take it to her preschool for the science table. The birds had other plans. I noticed today that the petals were gone as were half of the seeds. We immediately decided to cut it down and pick out what was left.

My oldest suggested we grab the magnifying glasses to obserbe the seeds (just the other day she asked me if a magnifying glass was a science tool? Where do they come up with these questions?) Turns out there were more than enough seeds left to pick. All three of us were concerned with different aspects of this activity. I wanted some great pictures. My oldest spent her time picking the seeds and throwing them all over the patio - "to feed the birds." My 2 year old was intent on trying to get the shell open to reveal the seed. All of us busy, all of us enjoying the sunflower in our own way. It really was a sunflowery afternoon.

Happy May Day

Just two days ago. . .

the girls and I took a long delightful stroll around the neighborhood. We admired the flowers at our corner market. We stopped to photograph every perfect tulip we passed. There were even numerous rides on the tricycle up and down the block.
Then today this. . . are you kidding me!?

Spring

The girls and I planted a few flowers today. And by a few, I mean 2. I can never resist the first primroses of spring. I thought these orange ones would be just the thing to remind my neurons how to fire. Not to mention they are, "Daddy's favorite color," as my oldest pointed out. Here's to spring. It's reassuring to see the sun peek out of the gray.
