Forget Photo Friday

My baby is 2 today!
I can hardly believe it. Seems like only yesterday she looked like this:

Sigh. It really does go so fast.

We celebrated her birthday last weekend along with 2 other July birthdays - my grandma-in-law and my oldest niece. I was lucky enough to be in charge of the cake. I made a white cake with yellow colored butter cream frosting. My youngest thinks everything is 'yehyow' so her cake definitely had to be. Figured the others liked yellow just fine.

The cake turned out great - not too dense or flat and had a great vanilla taste. I don't think the frosting was a true butter cream as it only called for 1/4 cup of butter, not the 2 sticks that I saw in many other recipes. It tasted good, though - maybe a bit too sweet. Recipes can be found here and here.

I got the cake decoration idea from a magazine(waiting for the dentist), I think it was Family Fun or something similar. Tried to find it online, but couldn't. If anyone runs into it, please send me the link. The flowers are made with spice drops (halved) and sliced almonds. There was another cake in the article that was decorated with Teddy Grahams. It was darling too.

Happy Friday to you all!

oh sniff, sniff! I don't know how my little baby has come to be 5 1/2 either. I just don't know how the time has passed so quickly!

I love the gumdrop/sliced almond flowers on the cake. Such a simple, lovely design, it really makes the cake!
