And how was your day?

I have a little George Costanza in me. I'll admit it. Today I felt like the world was kinda against me. Today I felt like some cosmic force was ganging up on me, having a few laughs at my expense. Ya ever have days like that? Sheesh.

5 minutes before waking Audrey to go pick up Eva from school I heard a crash in the kitchen. Weird. I thought it must be a glass or something. Not so lucky, I'm afraid. Oh no, that would have been too simple to clean up. Instead it was the brand new bottle of olive oil that had fallen from a high shelf onto the floor. It was the kind of spill that covers nearly every inch of the floor, cabinets too. I mumbled a few choice words to myself, grabbed Audrey and went out the door.

On the way to school, I figured out how I was going to clean it. I didn't spend my adolescence working in a grocery store for nothing. Kitty litter. It would soak up the oil, I'd scoop it up and be done with it. I could almost hear the intercom saying, "clean up on aisle 3." Have you heard of this? I guarantee every grocery store has a bag in the back room for mayo, salad dressing and oil spills ~ works like a charm. Maybe not a charm, but it does soak up the oil.

It did work, but damn it was a lot of work. As I was rinsing out the mop for the millionth time, I realized this was the second time consuming mess I'd cleaned up today. The earlier one involved my 2.5 year old *potty training* daughter who has been known to say "mama, I peed in mine undies." Sometimes it is pee and sometimes, well, it's not. Today was the not pee variety. Oh my - the kinda mess that leaves you needing a shower and a stiff drink.

Just finished cleaning and decided to spend this 20 minutes before leaving for my French class blogging instead of completing my French homework. Anyone know how to say - I had to clean up shit and olive oil today so I couldn't do my homework in French? I'll have to Google Translate that one.

That's all for me.

I think you need to just skip class and get that drink.

I got up still sick and drove across town to school only to realize I was too sick to be there. Then I drove back across town and noticed that my steering wheel was shaky. By the time I got home my tire was completely flat. And at that time it was only 1:30... I say go and get a drink as well!

"J'ai du ramasser de la merde et de l'huille! Quelle journée terrible!" (I had to pick up pooh and oil! What a horrible day!)... I totally know how you are feeling as I was having the same kind of day, plus ants invading the house, and instead of working on my Swedish homework, I too was blogging! Which resulted in me understanding 25% of my class as opposed to my normal 50%...

Love your blog!

Hope you had a better end to the day!

What an awful awful day... and I bet if you had planned for a day free enough to clean up all those things you wouldn't have chosen those things to clean up in your free time.

I absolutely loved your trip to Italy it brought back lots of lovely memories!

Ok lady, normally I'm a lurker on your blog, but today your candor made me laugh out loud. I had to tell you thanks for making me laugh and feel better about my own "messes to clean."

All I can say is "Thank goodness they weren't simultaneous!"

Oh the olive oil. Ug. I've used corn starch and salt to clean up egg. I think oatmeal works too.

Good thing you were thinking and your floor is probably very well moisturized now! :)

What a day! I am impressed with the cat litter trick...I never would have thought of that. Hope the rest of your week is much better and free of all yucky substances :)
