DeFunked

This weekend was the perfect cure to my winter blahs. Sunshine, fresh air, and pretties.

On Saturday morning we went to the farmers' market. It is full of beautiful spring flowers, produce, meats and cheeses. There was also an antique market going on. I could have wandered through that all day. I can never resist the first primroses of spring, so we each chose one to put in the planter by our front door. Can you figure out whose is whose?

On Sunday it was nice enough for me to hang out the laundry on our clothes line. To me this is a great pleasure. I love the smell of the clothes and the look of the items blowing in the breeze. I also like the process of it, hanging, checking, clothes pins, baskets, Audrey running under the sheets - all good! Bryce got out the mower and we all spent some time in the back yard. It was extremely pleasant.

I also crawled out of my sewing funk, by making my first reversible patchwork bag. This is a wonderful and very forgiving pattern therefore, the bag turns out great! So cute. It was fun to make and not too time consuming at all. For this first one I used some squares I had left from the Charm Quilt Scrap Exchange. One side of the bag is in blues the other in reds. I have squares cut out for 3 more. I increased the square size from 2.5 inches to 4 in order to make a bigger bag. Have you tried this pattern yet? It is addicting. You won't be disappointed with the results. More pictures here.

How was your weekend?

Wow, sounds like a great weekend. Wish I could say the same. The weather here was rain, rain and a little more rain with some extra high winds thrown in for fun. BLECH!!! I had no motivation for anything.....

I recognize one of those squares! You have no idea how silly happy I get when I see something in someone's projects, haha! The square I see on the bag was the coolest shirt I ever owned. Yay for it's second life. Now I'm off to check out that pattern, i was just about to head into the sewing room to make a rag bag for knit scraps to polish shoes or silver or whatever when I saw the link, yay!

responding to your comment on my blog (I never know where to respond to those at:-) I know, I can't believe I utter the words "restrict reading" but seriously she is crazy! We actually took away her nighttime reading the other night for a punishment and you would have thought we were commiting the worst torture on the planet!!! I love that she reads so much, but she needs to be a little bit social, doesn't she??? Hey, did you get my FB message?? Hope all is well!!

yes that is eva with a parka, tutu, socks and boots on. you can't see audrey's outfit but she is wearing tights a pink leotard with tutu and her parka too.

The almost Moon is like the Lovely Bones in that it is very easy to read and well written. However, this book is not "lovely" it is a pretty ugly book - grisly story, unlikeable main character, but maybe that's the point. It offers LOTS to discuss though, mother daughter relationships, turning into your mother, mental illness, dysfunctional families.

Here's the scariest quote of the book:
When was it that you realized the thread woven through your DNA carried the relationship deformities of your blood relatives as much as it did their diabetes or bond density?

yeah, suck on that a while. I know I did.

Buon Primavera!!!! I'm glad to hear that you've been able to at least sense the coming of spring. I love the photo of the kids and Bryce and am thinking I might need to get to the market and buy some spring flowers for my pots. And, I agree with you entirely about the wonderfulness of laundry on the line!

I love that you hang clothes out to dry!! several of my US expat friends are very surprised to see that many australians dont have dryers (we dont need them really - it is so sunny here) and that we hang our clothes out on clothes lines... all houses have them.

and I LOVE That photo thru the tree.. that is the most gorgeous whimsical photo i have seen for a while
